Day 890: Out Of Action!

New Years resolution challenge

G’day,

This week’s post is being published two days late, on the count of a weird summer cold that kept me out of action for most of this week! This was a bit of a downer as I had to postpone all my scheduled activities: weight training; running; surfing and golf!

In more positive news I’m pretty much back to 100% today. I’ve learned the hard way that it is best to lay low while I have a cold or a flu. I have tried to “fight” through it with training but it always makes it worse.

While I was down I wasn’t out, as I did continue my high compliance to my New Year’s Resolution challenge set on January 1, 2024. I am still batting at 100% abstinence for alcohol and junk food in 2024! While the zero alcohol thing is easy for me these days the zero junk food is something I could never have been able to do in years prior.

I did however have one soft drink (Sprite Zero) last Monday, so I’ve updated my compliance stats below. This now means I have 17 other days throughout the year where I can consume soft drink to stay above the 95% abstinence threshold. I think I can stick to this plan, I guess we’ll see by December 31, 2024!

Until next week,

Eat Clean,
Shred Hard,
Think BIG!

  1. What a journey. And as we are paying attention to what happens in daily life and how we respond and react to it- we can learn so much about our real selves, as you have noted.
I think you are spot on (as you would say) because I recall reading way back in the 1960’s that Vince Gironda said that nutrition is 90% of the overall effort in bodybuilding.
Adam, I have been following your come back Missions and I have been wondering. We can all see the pictures and detailed stats that you publish and they are (once again) impressive and amazing. But those people that see you every day whether they are co-workers or family- what is their reaction to this remarkable transformation? I am curious.

    1. G’day Carlos! Great to hear from you mate, I think you and Vince Gironda are on the money there. Aligning my nutrition plan to my goals (and making it sustainable) has been a very large part of losing the weight and staying there. A big part of it for me was “progressive discipline”, that is tightening the reins the further I went. It is probably too much of a shock to the system to go “100% clean” overnight, but over time once results and momentum build up it gets easier to draw new lines. Right now I am 7 months without “junk food”, this would have been near impossible when I first rebooted in August 2021, but now it is a way of life (besides raw fruit is plenty sweet for my tastebuds now!).

      1. Oh yeah, on the feedback from family and coworkers it has been interesting! My family were very happy when I peeled off the weight over the first 6 months, but it has now been two years at a stable weight so it is not a topic of discussion! With my coworkers I actually switched careers after I lost the weight so they only knew me at sub 95 kg (they never knew me at 130 kg!)
