G’day,
Wow, what a wild week it was over here in Southeast Queensland!
200,000 Lightning Strikes!
We’ve had 100km/h winds, hail, lightning strikes (over 200,000 on Christmas night), flash flooding, power outages and road closures!
We are incredible lucky that we personally came out of it alright (minus a few palm trees uprooted and moved to a new location!) but quite a few friends were still without power up until the 31st of December.
And wouldn’t you know it, just as we recovered from last week’s storms another big one hit on New Year’s Eve! Thankfully this one was not quite as devastating, but the day is not over yet…so we’ll see.
A Very Quiet New Year’s Eve
How was your New Year’s Eve? Mine was very quiet…in bed and asleep by 10pm! After waking up this New Year’s Day feeling clear-headed and refreshed I can say I do not miss those all-day hangovers!
So, it is without a hint of sadness I can say that my partying and drinking days are over! To be fair, I have been incrementally weening myself off alcohol since July 2021 after multiple heavy sessions over the previous month that left me the worse for wear.
My Zero Alcohol New Year’s Resolution!
Fast forward to Christmas 2023 and I’m now down to only two drinks for the whole festive season! The lingering effects of alcohol now far outweigh the temporary “highs” I used to get. Case in point, I felt pretty rough the day after those two beers on Christmas Eve. As my consumption has decreased so has my tolerance!
So, with all this said I decided to make a “radical” New Year’s Resolution last night…zero alcohol in 2024! I realise it is not a giant leap for me, but tracking my compliance to this zero alcohol resolution over one whole year makes this very real (with no wiggle room!).
Tracking Compliance To Zero Alcohol Goal
Check out my New Year’s Resolution accountability table below. It is a very simple “yes/no” scoring system that I’ll be updating weekly.
As you can see I’ve also decided to include two extra categories of things I’d like to reduce in 2024: soft drinks (especially cola) and processed foods (non-whole foods, aka “junk foods”). In for a penny, in for a pound ey?!
Until next week,
Eat Clean,
Shred Hard,
Think BIG!

P.S. With my indulgence over Christmas and Boxing Day and 10k less steps per day I put on 2.4kg over the last seven days! Will I right the ship this coming week?!
