Day 98: Surfin’ GCA!

G’day,

Surfin’ Gold Coast Australia doesn’t really have the same ring to it hey?! Anyway, let me tell you there were wipeouts galore from my two hour surf lesson yesterday! I got very close to standing up in the last three waves I caught but alas it wasn’t to be.

Even though it was great fun being back in the actual surf (rather than the pool) I gotta say it was a tough workout! I thought I’d been working my core pretty hard over the last few months, but this was another level. And boy, can I feel it today! My abs, shoulders and upper back are in DOMSville!

I also realised that I still have quite a bit of weight to lose (and strength to gain) in order to maximise my fun on the board. Even though I have come down around 28 kgs since late July I reckon I’ve still got another 20 kgs to go before I can shred the surf. But this is all great motivation for me to keep going, as I have thought trying surfing again since my last crack at it in 2003 at Waikiki.

Anyway, over the next 11 weeks I’ll definitely be focusing more on my core, shoulders and back to get my surfing game up to speed!

Until tomorrow,

AJ
