G’day,
For the last three days I have run my local lake track for a total of 19.7 kms! I was thinking about something this morning during my run, that this would be the most I have run in a three day period for at least ten years. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry!
When I launched my Mission 25 days ago my run/walks started at 24 mins (one minute run alternated with a one minute walk) with another two minute increment added for each new run. Today my run/walk clocked in at 1 hr 8 mins, almost three times my initial starting capacity!
When I hit the one hour mark three days ago I also upped my additional increments to four minutes, from the previous two. As my distances are always increasing I have found the best way to track my progress is via “pace per/km” and “heart rate.”
For example my “average pace per/km” on my first run 25 days ago was 10:03 mins/km and my average heart rate was 157 bpm. On today’s run my pace was 9:33 mins/km and my average heart rate was 150 bpm, despite the fact today’s run was almost three times longer.
Knowing these numbers and the progress I’m making gives me extra fuel to keep my streak going, who knows where I’ll be by the end of this Mission?! However, I also am cognisant of the fact that my current times are well below par fitness wise, I can tell by the way people at the lake blow right past me! This means I still have a ways to go, and I’m going to get after it every day, starting afresh tomorrow!
