Day 923: Performance Issues (Now Fixed!)

G’day,

Update: I actually solved my site speed and performance issues later the same day! Check out my performance report from Lighthouse below. If you are a regular visitor to this blog I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments re: speed and load time.

site performance issues fixed according to Lighthouse report.
Google Lighthouse Performance report, 100%!

Original Post: One week into Mission 11 and I’ve got major performance issues…not with me, but with this blog!

I’ve known for a while that this blog has performance issues (particularly in “load time”) so I recently sought to make improvements. The first thing I did was upgrade from “shared hosting” to a faster, more exclusive server. The next thing I did was upload a new WordPress plugin that would use caching other techniques to speed up the load time.

However, according to Google’s Lighthouse report my site performance has not improved. In fact, on the mobile test my site performance has gone backwards! How could this be? I have no idea, I thought the sever upgrade and the plugin would do the trick but obviously not.

I don’t think there is an easy fix to this situation. It seems like my only option is to actually go through the Lighthouse report and try to fix these performance issues one by one. Unfortunately it is a long list and it is written in a way that assumes I am a coder. Translation: this could take a while!

In happier news I had a solid first week on Mission 11. For the first time in a while I actually completed all four workouts, a run and a swim. My nutrition was also on point, so much so that I dipped back under 16% body fat this week.

So, with my actual Mission off to a good start I’ll have to turn my attention to fixing this site…starting now!

  1. Hi Adam
Site speed and loading is def a lot faster now, job well done! I see in your latest photo that your lower abs have really tightened up, you must be stoked with that 🙂 (would be a worry for me as I continue on my transformation that I will have too much loose skin left🤔….so slow and steady the way forward?)
A quick question: what app are you using for your activity monitoring to have all the results on the one page? Keep up the good work mate.🤙
    Xavier

    1. Hi Xavier, thanks mate, yeah the site speed dramatically improved when I removed the gigantic “Post Grid” home page! Mate, you know what, my lower abs are strong but getting them to poke through is a major undertaking! They might have improved a touch from when I was 10kg heavier but I’m think I’ll have to drop into the mid-70kg mark before they become remotely visible.

I also have a loose skin issue there, I’m not sure of your situation there mate but it has been slow and steady for me over the last 2 years. When I first lost the weight in 6 months (around 80 lbs) the loose skin was much more pronounced, now it has settled down a bit.All in all though I don’t regret losing the weight that fast because without the momentum I might have given up and stayed put at 120 plus kg. Generally speaking though, slow and steady is best to combat loose skin, 100%.

For my stats mate I use a Garmin Instinct smartwatch, so the it is the Garmin app that gives me the readout.
