Day 704: Mission Impossible?

G’day,

The mission I chose to accept 58 days ago is fast becoming impossible! My target of sub-80 kg by at the end of Mission 8 may even require me to put on a mask for my final pictures! Just kidding…I will post my full results (pictures and stats) no matter where I end up!

As I look over my stats from Mission 8 Day 1 to today I can see that I’ve actually gone backwards. My raw weight and body fat are slightly up since Day 1 (though both numbers have been lower at various stages over the last 58 days).

What can account for my inability to break through this plateau? On the surface the answer would appear to be obvious…my training and nutrition is not quite “on.” However, on a deeper level I believe it is my lack of intensity and attention to detail.

Maybe I do not have a strong enough PRW (Powerful Reason Why) driving me this time around? When I tipped the scales at 129.7 kg (285.9 lbs) on July 26th, 2021 I made a “silent vow” that unleashed a high level of intensity and commitment for six whole months.

Upon hitting 86.4 kg (190.4 lbs) at the end of Mission 2 I consciously took my foot off the gas pedal and focused on “stabilising” my new weight, ie., not “blowing out” again! While I am extremely happy that I have managed to keep my weight under control I am struggling to find the drive to get me to my Mission 8 sub-80 kg target.

Perhaps my “contentment” at this bodyweight overrides my desire to hit my goal of surpassing my 2009 shape and fitness level? This could very well be the case. Nevertheless, I will see out this Mission to the very end…I sill have four weeks left Mission Impossible!

Until next week,

Shred Hard,
Think BIG!

P.S. Me and my peeps actually went to see Mission Impossible 7 last weekend. While I thought the movie was just “ok” it was still amazing to see Tom Cruise do all his death-defying stunts at 60 years of age! The older I get the more of an inspiration he becomes!

P.P.S. The post below is from Day 999 August 3, 2009. It was my approximate goal for August 10, 2023, aka Mission Impossible!

  1. G’day Adam,

Thanks again for posting your typically honest, transparent and self reflecting journey over so many years. You have always revealed to your readers the constant and often hidden ‘ups and downs’ associated with “getting started”, “staying on track” and then to either “stay there” or “do it again”. What a ride. 2 years ago you made the second choice, a massive choice because those 12 years prior (numerous attempts to start) would not have been easy.

Here you are and have been for almost 2 years, living your values and holding yourself accountable to the last mission. Seriously mate, I have to say “bloody well done!”.

To be honest, its not the 94.4% compliance or the 80kg goal that is most impressive to me, its the 100% accountability over almost 2 years and what you overcame along the way to even be talking about your mission 8 goals. Your a ‘fair dinkum’ winner mate.

Qld didn’t win the final State of Origin 2023 game last week but they certainly celebrated the series win. Don’t forget to celebrate your series win Adam….and that’s coming from a Blues supporter!

    Good luck mate
    Phil

    1. G’day Phil! Great to hear from you mate, and thank you very much, you have a great way of putting things into perspective mate! I have been a little frustrated recently, but to read a comment like yours reminds me of the bigger picture, and to receive a comment like this two years ago would have been unthinkable! Thanks man, and you know what…I’m a Blues supporter! I actually grew up in Randwick before coming up to the sunshine state, but I’ve remained loyal!! Maybe next year for us eh?! or maybe not based on our recent track record!

  2. Hi Adam,

Well that makes it much harder if we are both Blues supporters to reference a relevant Blues analogy. Maybe you should just talk to our team about having a clearer PRW for the first 2 games which seemed to be missing until the last game. : )

Randwick hey? So a Roosters supporter perhaps? Sharks for me.

    1. Haha, that’s right Phil they needed a stronger PRW for Games 1&2! Maybe some earthquake intensity as well, like the last cycle on a HIIT session! To be honest I do miss the 80’s and 90’s Origins for their intensity and occasional biff. I was there at Lang Park in 1988 when they sent Wally to the bin, and the cans flew on the field in protest! With my club team I am a Sharks supporter too man, have been since 1988 when ET, Sparkles and Gavin Miller tore up the Broncos!! Me and bro actually went to the 2016 GF and witnessed the miracle, something we never thought we’d see, a great night, especially with ET handing the shield to Gal!

  3. That’s Gold!

    I was at the 2016 GF also…what a game!

    Here is some irony…

I had the chance to met up with GM about 2 months ago, he was looking for a rental place with one of my mates and we met him at the local pub for a couple of ours. Nice guy, very friendly. ET lives around the corner as did Gal until he moved a few years back. So you could say that I have black, white and blue running through the veins since a toddler.

Good luck mate closing out Mission 8
    Up Up Cronulla..

    1. Oh wow, you were there too mate! How intense was the final 2 minutes! Me and my bro were right behind the try line where the Storm were attacking, we both though the Sharks were gone with that 4 man overlap! How great it was? Sounds like you were born with Sharkies in your blood mate! Gavin Miller, what a legend, my favourite forward in the late 80’s, he used to carve them up ey?! Thats awesome you got to meet him mate, I bet you could talk for hours about those days!
