Day 674: More Difficult Than I Remember!

G’day,

Back in the day on my original Mission 1 (November 8, 2006 to January 31, 2007) I cut 10 kgs and 10% of body fat in 12 weeks. I remember that specific time period very clearly as it was a major breakthrough for me at the time (of course, it I ever need to look up a particular day I can can just go through the archives on this blog!).

Day 85 Video: Its My Birthday!

A picture tells a thousand words, so I’ll keep this short and sweet. Way back on November 8th, 2006 my dream was to eat a chocolate birthday cake while holding…...

However, one thing I may not remember as clearly is just how hard I worked! Maybe the passage of time has blurred my memory? The reason I say this now is because I could swear I am working hard…but the results are not coming as they once were!

To be specific, I am not talking about going from obese to average (when I lost 38 kgs 2021-22). Rather, I am talking about going from average to lean, that is, from my current weight of 86.9kg to sub 80 kg and 10% body fat. This is more or less what I did on my Mission 1 all those years ago, I’m just finding much more difficult this time around!

Back in the day it seemed like every day bought a new victory of some sort, like old clothes fitting again, lifting personal bests, noticeable improvements in my physique, etc. These days it is a real grind, I need to be at or near 100% compliance to eke out a small improvement over 7 days.

As I write this right now I am also realising I am much older than I was back then…17 years to be exact! This, coupled with my 12-year “abyss” may be a larger factor than I realised. Or perhaps, I am not as dialled now as I was back then? Either way, I’ll give it my all over the next 8 weeks on Mission 8 and see where I end up!

Until next week,

Eat Clean,
Shred Hard,
Think BIG!

  1. The abs are poking through! Your hard work is paying off Adam. My thoughts are once you get to your goal, how will it be sustained? I think a lot of people will want to know that in view of what happened to the “Biggest Losers” who (as we all know) lost lots of weight (fat) but gained it all back. (plus) I think that will be a great experience for you and a great read for those who are following your quest.
Sue and I will be cheering you on.

  2. G’day Carlos, I just saw your comment now mate! That is such a great point, and maybe the most important (and hardest) aspect of a weight loss journey…maintaining it. From my point of view I would place accountability at the top of the list, preferably a daily (or weekly) system that requires pictorial evidence. Further to that, I would say that it is important to know up front that it will take an equal amount to “get there” as to “stay there.” That is, for me it was 6 months to get under 90kg from 130kg, and another 6 months to stay under 90kg in order to ingrain the new habits and mindset.

This is why I did one year of daily accountability for my first year, and only switching to weekly accountability once I had one year under my belt. I view the nutrition and training guidelines as secondary to the mindset, motivation, goal setting and accountability “infrastructure.”
